Fabric
Why Fabric?

New Era
in Data Analytics

Microsoft Fabric is a next-generation solution that combines all data analytics workloads on a single SaaS platform. Instead of disparate tools, different licenses, and complex integrations — one platform, one lake, one security model.

  • OneLake: A single data lake for all data
  • 7 integrated workloads (Data Engineering → Power BI)
  • Flexible pricing based on capacity (CU)
  • Unified security with Microsoft Entra ID
  • Copilot AI-powered data discovery and analysis
  • Full integration with Azure, M365 and Power Platform
All-in-One Platform

Fabric 7
Integrated Workload

Designed for every stage of the data lifecycle, with seamlessly integrated experiences across the platform.

Data Engineering

Transform and prepare large data sets with Lakehouse architecture powered by Apache Spark.

Data Factory

Create ETL/ELT pipelines with 150+ connectors. Orchestrate data migration and transformation processes.

Data Science

Create, train and deploy machine learning models in an MLflow-supported notebook environment.

Data Warehouse

T-SQL compatible, auto-scalable data warehouse. Cross-database queries and time travel support.

Real-Time Intelligence

Real-time analysis on billions of events with KQL. Ideal for IoT, log and telemetry data.

Power BI

Create interactive dashboards and reports directly on Fabric data. Instant access with Direct Lake mode.

Data Activator

Automatically detect data changes and trigger conditional actions — without writing code.

Unified Data Lake

OneLake
architecture

A single data lake for all Fabric workloads. Eliminate separate silos,
Store your data once, access it from anywhere.

OneLake

A single ADLS Gen2-based data lake for all Fabric workloads

Fabric vs.
Traditional Approach

Criterion Conventional (Discrete Vehicles) Microsoft Fabric
Data Storage Separate storage and data copying for each vehicle OneLake — single data lake, access with shortcuts
Licensing Separate license and pricing for each product Based on single capacity (CU), all workloads included
Security Separate security configuration for each vehicle Combined Entra ID, Purview, sensitivity tags
ETL / Data Pipeline Different orchestration tools (SSIS, Airflow etc.) Integrated Data Factory, 150+ connectors, Dataflows Gen2
Data Warehouse Dedicated SQL Pool, additional management Serverless, T-SQL, auto scaling
Real Time Analysis Azure Data Explorer → separate resource/license Integrated Real-Time Intelligence, KQL, Eventstreams
Reporting Power BI separate connection, import/DirectQuery Direct Lake — reading from lakehouse without copying
AI & Copilot Limited or external integration Built-in Copilot, automatic code generation, data annotation
Governance Separate lineage tracking for each vehicle Central Purview integration, data family tree
Capacity Options

Fabric
SKUs

Scalable capacity units (CU) as per your need.
All workloads share a single capacity pool.

SKU Capacity Unit (CU) Power BI Max RAM (Spark) Usage Scenario
F2 2 CU - 4GB PoC, development environment
F4 4 CU - 8GB Small teams, testing
F8 8 CU EM1 equivalent 16 GB Department level
F16 16 CU EM2 equivalent 32GB Medium-sized organizations
F32 32 CU P1 equivalent 64GB Enterprise workloads
F64 64 CU P2 equivalent 128GB big data analytics
F128 128 CU P3 equivalent 256GB Large-scale institutions
F256+ 256+ CU P4+ equivalent 512+ GB Petabyte scale projects

Answers

Frequently asked
Questions

What is Microsoft Fabric?
Microsoft Fabric is a next-generation analytics solution that combines data engineering, data science, data warehousing, real-time analytics, Power BI, and data integration into a single SaaS platform. Thanks to the unified data lake called OneLake, you manage all your data from a single point.
What is the difference between Fabric and Synapse Analytics?
Azure Synapse Analytics is the predecessor to Fabric. Fabric; It combines all the capabilities of Synapse (Spark, SQL, Data Integration) with Power BI, Real-Time Intelligence and Data Science to deliver a single SaaS experience. Migrating from Synapse to Fabric is supported by Microsoft.
What is OneLake and why is it important?
OneLake is a single data lake for all Fabric workloads. It is built on ADLS Gen2 and uses Delta/Parquet open formats. There's no need to copy data to different tools — each workload directly accesses the same data. You can connect to external sources (AWS S3, GCS) with Shortcuts.
How is Fabric priced?
Fabric is priced based on capacity (CU — Capacity Unit). The capacity you purchase covers all workloads (Spark, SQL, Power BI, Real-Time, etc.). SKU options from F2 to F2048 are available. You can get up to 40% discount with Azure Reservations. As CSP Partner, we recommend you the most suitable SKU and payment plan.
Can I use Fabric with my existing Power BI license?
You can try some of Fabric's basic features with Power BI Pro or Premium Per User licenses. However, for the full Fabric experience (Spark, Data Warehouse, Real-Time Intelligence, etc.) at least F2 capacity is required. Your existing Power BI Premium capacity (P1, P2, P3) is automatically mapped to the Fabric capacity (F64, F128, F256).
What kind of services does Cloudspark offer regarding Fabric?
As a Microsoft CSP Partner, we provide end-to-end support for your Fabric projects: We offer Workspace and capacity planning, OneLake architectural design, Data Pipeline/Lakehouse installation, migration from Synapse/Databricks to Fabric, Power BI Direct Lake optimization, Real-Time Intelligence installation, Copilot activation, training and SKU optimization services.
